A statewide project, SunPass consists of a unique system that utilizes a small, pocket- sized transponder that attaches to the inside of a windshield.
SunPass, by means of an AVI, or Automatic Vehicle Identification windshield transponder, lets a vehicle pass through specially equipped lanes without stopping. The transponders transmit and receive signals as the vehicle passes through designated SunPass lanes. At each passing, the appropriate toll is deducted from the customer's prepaid account. Thus the driver does not have to stop to pay a manual toll. The transponder can be used on any Florida state-run toll road.
