SunPass Installation

The SunPass transponder installs in seconds on your vehicle's windshield, and requires no special tools or techniques.

Materials Needed:

  • SunPass transponder with attached adhesive windshield mount

  • Isopropyl alcohol (not rubbing alcohol) -Window cleaner is acceptable.

  • Clean, dry cloth

Steps:

  1. Use the isopropyl alcohol to clean the inside, top center of the windshield where the transponder will be installed.

  2. Position the transponder horizontally on the windshield so it is above, or just below and to the right of, the rear view mirror. It must also be at least 2 inches (5 cm) below the windshield frame. (note: if your windshield has a sunshield imbedded in the glass, ensure that the transponder is at least 2 inches below this screen)

  3. After noting the correct transponder position in step 2, peel the clear plastic strips from the adhesive side of the mounting strips on the back of the transponder.

  4. Press the transponder, using the adhesive strips attached on the back, firmly against the glass in the appropriate location as determined in step 2. Hold for 10 seconds. Your transponder is now installed and ready to use. It is not recommended that you apply the transponder to your windshield if the temperature is below 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The adhesive material may not adhere properly at these temperatures. The tape bond reaches full strength after approximately 72 hours at 70 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. If possible, do not remove the transponder from the windshield for three days to allow the adhesive to set.
