Five-Year Work Program
As Miami-Dade County's population is expected to increase by 60 percent over the next 20 years, MDX has created short-term and long-term goals to minimize current traffic congestion problems as you Drive the Five. The Five-Year Work Program is a series of ongoing projects to expand the current expressway network and introduce state-of-the-art technology to improve the efficiency of the existing transportation system.
Major projects of the Five-Year Work Program that are already underway include the extension of State Road 836 (Dolphin Expressway) to improve access to residential and business communities west of the airport, reconstruction of State Road 874 (Don Shula Expressway) between Kendall Drive and the Turnpike and the addition of the Intelligent Transportation System on State Road 836 to improve traffic flow.
To keep Miami-Dade Moving, the projects included in the Five-Year Work Program continually change as priorities are evaluated, projects are completed, new projects are identified and MDX's financial resources evolve. It is estimated that through the Five-Year Work Program more than 13,400 jobs will be created and it will have an estimated economic impact of $1.3 billion over five years in South Florida.
